What does the Bible say about a loose tongue?

(Wisdom to consider the next time you get tempted to engage in useless chitter chatter )

The tongue has been deemed most powerful yet untamable! That little soft boneless piece of flesh that knocks on our teeth to give out sounds that is some how understood or misunderstood by many has quite the bit of power.

We are taught that we can “speak things into being...” even The Four Agreements, for those who believe in it, speaks about being “impeccable with your words.” Or “making daily affirmations till they manifest.

The Bible speaks a lot about the power of the tongue. Even in genesis God SAID “let there be...” and it became.

Additional common scriptures that indicates the power of the tongue include:

Proverbs 12:18 - "There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing."

Proverbs 18:21 confirms this by saying, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits."

Matthew 18:18, which proclaims, "Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

So if the tongue has such high regard and apparent power why are we not more careful in the way we use it?

Why aren’t we more intentional with the conversations we tend to be so quick to engage in?

Or the words we speak over our lives?

Consider the following verses as you make a decision about how to effectively use your tongue.

The Bible says:

Proverbs 13:3; “Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin."

Ephesians 4:29; "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear."

Proverbs 26:20; "Without wood, a fire will go out, and without gossip, quarreling will stop."

Matthew 12:36; "I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak."

Matthew 12:37; "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Proverbs 29:20; "Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him."

Our words do not go into thin air and disappear, they go out and wait for us in the future. With that knowledge what steps can we take to ensure we do not fall victim to our own loose rumbling? Selah

My life is on 'Replay': wondering aimlessly in a circle?

Written by Netisha Alie

Have you ever noticed that some things happen to you over and over for a long period of time? Let's say you've had relationship patterns repeat themselves, or your job issues tend to be the same no matter the job change, and you only notice it when it happens again. If you have, then you understand just how annoyingly time consuming these experiences are and just how much they keep you in a stagnant location. It's like walking a path that keeps leading you back to the exact same location. What do we call it? -A trap, we've seen it in the movies but guess what your life is the movie and you are the character. This is actually a serious issue because it can keep you at one level in your life for a very long time. Obviously you'd much rather be growing in life.
Trend Hunter: Circle of life Artwork

If this is your predicament don't feel bad just yet, it has actually happened in ancient and bible times so you're not the first and probably won't be the last. Let's take a look at God's people -the Israelites- who were made to wonder in the wilderness for 40 years. So they went in circles but what was God's real purpose for allowing this to happen to the people He loved so much, when there was a much shorter way? They needed to learn a few things, they needed to 'GROW' some more but most of all because of their disobedience to God, they didn't get to experience the land He had promised of milk and honey. (Joshua 5:6.)

Are we going to allow the devil to repeat our mistakes and our bad habits to keep us in bondage that will keep us from the 'land of milk and honey?' God promises in John 10:10 that He sent his son so that we can have life and to have it in full, abundance and ENJOY it! So anything contrary to this is not a part of God's plan for us and must be dealt with.

Thus, when you find yourself having that moment where you recognize you are fighting something you thought you conquered or overcame in your past, reflect for a moment and create a timeline; has this happened before? How many times have you gone through this very same issue? Identify it for what it is-a cycle-any complete runs or series of occurrences that repeats or is repeated. Then Decide how much more of it you want to tolerate. Know that this isn't God's plan for you and make a conscious decision to break this cycle over your life. Ask God to show you the lesson you need to learn and learn it. Then get mad, get 'fed up', and BREAK it over your life through the power of God is it very possible.

Too many people are living in bondage within themselves, repeating their life's mistakes and wallowing in a cycle. It is time to step out in 2018, the year of New Beginnings. Claim your freedom NOW! In the name of Jesus, I declare that every cycle holding you hostage shall be broken!!! Declare it, believe it and receive it!
