Should Christian Married Couples use Birth Control?

Intro…
The Sixth Day
…26Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.” 27So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth.” Genesis 1:26-27

During my research of this “Hot” topic it was interesting to learn the views of the seasoned married Christians and church leaders.

However as important as it was for me to know the answer to this burning question I couldn’t help believing that so many other Christian newly weds would love to have some light shed on it as well.

I also pray that the sentiments shared would be in alignment with God as my whole purpose is to live a life pleasing to Him. Here goes…

The Questions:
Are we ready to have children?  In this age of career oriented women and high standards of living, is having more than one child wise? When should I have a child?... Clearly the decision to bring another human into this world is simply that: A Choice!

About half way through my research I realized that Christians have deferring views on this topic and there is no clear stance on it in the bible either. Some argue that God is in control and He said in Genesis to “be fruitful and multiply…” So He gave instructions to “have children to ‘fill the earth.” Though Dr. Miles Monroe argues that this scripture is not entirely about having children but to be “fruitful” in a resourceful manner by using our gifts and talents to improve and care for the earth.

On the other hand, others argue that God gave us FREEWILL and wisdom to make the best decisions. (Galatians 5:13 “For, brethren, ye have been called to liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” So should married Christians control childbearing or not?

Birth control is apparently a huge business which goes back for many years.-Dismissing the notion that this is a modern day phenomenon. From then to now, like many other discoveries, it has advanced tremendously and multiplied significantly creating many more options to choose from and suit your particular life style.

However for the purpose of this article I will group them into Natural, Artificial and Surgical. Natural Birth control methods are what most Christian religious groups promote which should be great news for the concerned Christian couple.

Artificial includes all those substances created by man to alter the body’s natural functioning (which is a sin) to prevent conception and, third Surgical includes cutting away of body parts that aid in pregnancy.

The Reason:As Christians we are asked to use wisdom and were also given the earth to Dominate. Which could mean God gave us the authority to make decisions; having a child included.

We must therefore examine or lives and ask critical questions on would it be beneficial to bring another human into the world to starve/suffer? In Matthew 24:15-22 a vivid description is given of the great tribulation and verse 19. “Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days…”-Indicating it is a terrible choice to have a child in horrible circumstances.

Child conception is God’s work but I believe that He allowed us to know how we can control it so we can decide to naturally plan our family and avoid “woe” upon ourselves for bearing children in the worst circumstances. –My opinion!

Wouldn’t you prefer to ask God to prepare you to be the best parents and get your life in order before gifting you with another human? Though Jesus was born in the poorest of places, God His Father made sure His son and earthly parents were well taken care of, like every parent should do.

So the question remains, should you take birth control as a Married Christian couple and if you do will naturally and Condoms be your only options?

Since artificial methods are extremely unhealthy and ‘sinful’ because they alter the natural functioning of your body?
