Gary Chapman wrote a book entitled: The Five Love Languages. Though I know that as complex organisms we humans cannot fit into a “box,” I truly believe that there are principles in life that can guide us into discovering ourselves; such as The Five Love Languages.
Question time: Do you complain about giving so much “Love” to your partner but he or she simply does not appreciate your efforts? Or Can you safely say I love my partner so much but he or she doesn’t understand or see it?
Please note: The Love language is real!
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 13 if we cannot speak the Love language we are simply annoying distractions. The amplified version puts it this way: “If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not [a]love [for others growing out of God’s love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction].” Ladies one word for “…an annoying distraction.” is Nagging!
Activity time:
Here are Chapman’s Five Love Languages. (Five different ways to express & receive love) Review each thoroughly and note which one or ones are you and your partner’s as well. Then take steps to applying them into your relationship to see how they work!
1. Words of affirmation: Here words are important and provides security & assurance.
2. Physical Touch: Love is true when appropriate physical touch is involved.
3. Receiving Gifts: Receiving heartfelt gifts makes them feel loved.
4. Quality Time: Giving your undivided attention & making time for it.
5. Acts of service: Your actions & how you treat/serve them are most important.
Listen to Podcast for detailed explaining of each Love Language!
Gary Chapman only gave us some guiding principles, but God has made it clear that once we can learn to The Love Language well enough & apply it in our relationships we are more than likely to experience the abundant life He desires for us to live. We love because He first loved us and His perfect love casts out ALL fear. If anyone knows and speaks our love language it’s God. So let’s reflect God’s love for us to our partners by speaking Love in a language they understand rather than how we think they should understand it, and reap the benefits.
